God Hears Your Prayers
A testimony of childlike faith & the faithfulness of God.
Growing Up With a Heart for God
From the time I was a young child, something in me was drawn to the things of God. I was bold, adventurous, and curious, and I wanted to understand who Jesus was and why church mattered. Even though no one in my home attended, I felt a pull—so I began going on my own.
At an early age I joined GA’s, Bible School, and anything else my little church offered. I soaked up every word, every song, every Scripture. But even with all my involvement, a quiet ache lived inside me. Something was missing: I wanted my family to know God too.
At age nine, I surrendered my heart and life to Jesus. It was real. It was personal. It changed me. Yet even then, the longing grew deeper.
A Little Prayer Closet
To find peace, I created my own “prayer closet”—a small, hidden space where I would kneel, whisper prayers, and pour my heart out to God. If the old home were still standing today, I could walk you to the exact spot where my knees touched the floor.
And in that little place, I prayed the same prayer over and over:
and let them take me—not send me.
And God… please call my dad to preach.”
My parents were good, loving, moral people. I had never seen either of them drink or behave in ways that dishonored God. They were kind and hardworking. But I wanted them to know Jesus the way I did.
And then, God moved.
At the age of ten, I sat in church and watched—eyes wide, heart pounding—as my daddy was ordained as a Baptist minister. The very prayer I had whispered in secret… God brought to life right in front of me.
That day, my parents walked into the church as ordinary attendees. They walked out as answered prayer.
Scripture
“The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.”
— Psalm 34:17
“Before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”
— Isaiah 65:24
A Final Encouragement
Whether you are 5 or 95, God still hears. He still answers. He still moves in ways far beyond what we can see.
Keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep believing.
His Word has never changed — and His faithfulness never will.
